Yolo paint was used in a daycare we built. It covers the same 2 coats as any good paint will. The colors we choose were darker however. I would assume if you used yellow over blue , you will need primer first but Yolo makes this too. No VOC’s. Very safe stuff. I recommend it is worth cost compared to paints on sale. Stay away from “Designers Image” Menards brand.
We used Yolo for the first time in our bedroom and there was a strong smell that dissipated after 2 weeks. This was during the winter months in So Cal and we used a light color. It’s fine now but I too don’t trust all their claims.
I used yolo a few years ago. It had a slight smell until it dried. It is not a very durable paint, especially for glossier trim. The other thing is that it is very clean, but this past couple of years they have added Polyvinyl acetate to it, so I am leary of it. I liked safecoat better and it has more color options. Some people don’t like the odor. I found it the most innocuous. They have been specializing in MCS type products for years, but some fo their products are more troublesome than others.
Despite their LEED & other certifications, I did not have a positive experience with Yolo paint. Further, the Yolo people were very defensive – not one ounce of curiosity or compassion. I would never use Yolo again. It took over a month or two to offgas, longer than conventional paints in my opinion. People who were not sensitive to chemicals noticed the smell too.
