Question from Wenwei
hello Debra,
I will move into a brand new house very soon. Can you advise what to do?
I remember that I saw a page in your website that you suggest to heat the house for 24 hours for three to five times. Somehow I couldn’t find it anymore.
Can you advise what is link if I remeber right?
Thanks.

Debra’s Answer
Ah. The post you are looking for is Q&A: Anything I should do before I move into my brand new home?
What temp should the house be heated to?
COMMENT FROM DEBRA:
As high as possible with your central heating
I tried to clink on the link above but it was broken. I know it differs from house to house, but I’m wondering about how many years you would recommend waiting after a house was built to move in? I don’t have MCS, just concerned about general health effects. I am looking at a house built in the last year and a half. If I used heat for a few days to speed outgassing along would that be enough?
COMMENT FROM DEBRA:
Sorry, I lost some files while moving to the new site, they just didn’t transfer. I tried to locate all the lost files and replace them, but I missed a few and no longer have access.
It does differ from house to house. Personally, I don’t live in houses built after 1960. The house I live in now was built in 1940. That’s old enough.
For me, a year and a half isn’t enough for all the outgassing of modern materials. More like ten years.
If you use heat to speed outgassing, I would say at least a week, two would be better. As long as you have time to do it.
