A comprehensive discussion of toxic ingredients found in tattoo inks was recently published in GreenMedInfo.
It’s very technical, written in scientific language and well-documented, but full of information on the possible health effects of injecting colored inks into your skin.
Henna tattoos were not mentioned as a safer alternative method for body art.
GREENMEDINFO: Toxic Chemicals Found in Tattoos: Links to Autoimmune and Inflammatory Diseases
I’m desperately seeking non toxic KIDS temporary tatoos for my special needs daughter. We currently use Melissa and Doug brand but it has chemicals and coloring and made in China. Tatoos are the only DAILY positive reinforcer that works for my daughter to keep her from self injuring. So she always has several on jer arms until they fade. I cant find any natural ones with perhaps vegetable dyes and no other chemicals. Every other product I use on her is chemical free including her organic mattress and pillow. Please help
Yes, some brands of Henna products are toxic, the only one that has some that are really safe and at the same time strong enough to tatoo is Mehendi Henna. These are not permanent, but hey, that may be be better anyway – no regrets later.
