Are you eating organic but using an ordinary over-the-counter laxative?
If you are, then read this article about polyethylene glycol in super-laxative products. The FDA has collected more than 2000 “adverse events” from such products, ranging from forgetfulness to death.

Now if you need a laxative, that’s a sign you need to change your diet. Eat more vegetables. Drink more water. Green smoothies are fabulous. Take probiotics to repopulate your gut and enzymes to help digestive processes. Get your gut going again. Get professional help if you need to.
Digestion is vitally important to your health, to release and absorb nutrients from food and to move toxic chemicals out of your body.
The age old formula of using prune juice or prunes (organic of course!) works well. Stewing the prunes in water you tolerate also is very helpful. My grandmother was a Registered nurse for 50 years and this was her favorite method. It really works!
If you tolerate it, you can also use psyllium (the ingredient in Metamucil) but get it pure so it has not additives, flavoring, etc). You can find psyllium husks in health food stores and you mix it with water or fruit juice and drink it. Some people are allergic to psyllium or can become allergic to it after using it for some time so be judicious in its use.
And, I have successfully used “Senokot”, an over the counter herbal preparation that contains “Senna”, a natural vegetable laxative. Check the ingredients to be sure you are not sensitive to anything else listed under the inactive ingredients. There are various different Senokot products and I used the one that was just plain SENOKOT. (IMPORTANT NOTE: I would not try the other varieties this company makes such as “Senokot Extra” as the inactive ingredients include things like mineral oil and talc. Definitely avoid the one called “Senokot Plus” as it has an added stool softener and many additives such as artificial colors and other inactive ingredients that are not good for the chemically sensitive). Be judicious in using Senokot as some may be allergic to it or other ingredients in the formulation.
I hate using these laxatives when I have a colonoscopy. Does anyone know what can be used for colonoscopy prep that isn’t toxic?
