Question from Lanette
Recently I’ve been reading a lot about the dangers of nano-particles of titanium dioxide and zinc oxide in products, particularly in sunscreen. I know Debra was a big fan of Enviroklenz (air cleaners and related air purifying products), as am I. They all contain titanium dioxide. Is theirs the nano type or the non-nano type? Also would you give more information on what this is?
Lisa’s Answer
I confirmed with EnviroKlenz that the titanium dioxide is much larger than nano-particles and poses no health risk.
I just experienced the odor from a new EnviroKlenz replacement cartridge – HVAC filter, not HEPA. I asked for a replacement and EnviroKlenz is shipping. I did not notice any smell when I bought the machine 6 months ago, but it could have been there as well.
Yes, i am super-sensitive and have noticed the odor from a new Environklenz filter also. I believe it is mostly from the Hepa filter. In my experience it takes about 2 weeks of running it on lowest speed to dissipate. I put mine in my attached garage and left it on for a few days, then put it in my laundry room and closed the door, while leaving it on. After that it was fine. I have had mine for over 2 years and am happy with it.
I have an Environklenz.. It seems to have an odor when you first change the filter. The person I bought it from said that many of her customers with MCS say they can’t tolerate the filter. Has anyone else experienced this?
We had to return our Enviroklenz immediately. It had an odor that we could not tolerate. We are too chemically sensitive to have this machine in our house.
I recently bought an Enviroklenz air cleaner machine. I too experienced this, and was wondering how long it takes the odor to go away. If it goes away eventually then it would be worth keeping for the future even if it takes a while (Sheryl, you noted “when you first change the filter” – but how long before the odor is gone?). It would be helpful to figure it out and make the decision soon before my return window expires. I’ve loved their other products, like the laundry products and cleaners which got rid of heating oil fumes on clothing and paint fumes in my car, and really appreciate what they do, the niche they fill, and the help they provide. And summers are getting smokier here in Alaska, so I really want this to work as a long term solution.
Readers, do you have experience with this and can answer how long it takes for the odor to go away?
