Debra’s Answer
As I’ve said before, it’s difficult to evaluate anything to be safe for every individual with MCS because each has their own unique set of sensitivities.
I can tell you there is nothing I am aware of about buckwheat hull pillows that are toxic.
The Sobakawn Cloud pillow is full of “air beads” that appear to be some type of plastic. They don’t say the type of plastic and have no telephone number on their website, so I would pass on this one.
My sympathy to you!!
I have personal experience with constant severe head and neck pain from an accident; can’t take meds; no doctor could help me…until I received Network Spinal Analysis (NSA; a special chiropractic technique), then CranioSacral therapy (CST;http://upledger.com/content.asp?id=26) , and then Mechanical Link therapy (ML;mechanicallink.info;http://handspringbodywork.com/ml-list.html).
All three of those alternative therapies helped me very much. I got them at completely different times/seasons. I had to travel considerable distances to receive NSA and CST, which prevented me from continuing with either one. One or the other on a periodic basis would have provided great relief; both would not have been needed. The issue was that I did not have reasonable access to either of them.
Then I discovered ML. Now I receive ML once every three months and remain almost entirely pain free! When I first began ML, I got treatments every three weeks, which is the smallest duration allowed between treatments. It has taken several years of regular ML to reach my current status of my body being able to maintain the pain-free state for 3 months at a time. I do still have limitations of things I can’t do, or I would end up in pain again. But by respecting the limits of my injuries and getting ML, I am finally free from constant agony. All medical care is costly, of course, so I have had to make getting treatment a priority in my budget, but when you’re in agony, you do what you have to to get relief.
I believe you would get relief from any of those methods, probably most rapid relief from NSA and probably least expensive longterm with ML. I suggest that you google “network spinal analysis providers (+ zip code)” to see if one is available in your area, or similar for the other modalities. If you can’t find someone and make your zip code known, I can contact providers I know to ask about who might be in your area. (I live in the USA, but I believe all 3 modalities are available in other countries too.) There are providers listed at the URLs I provided, but there may be others not listed there. I don’t have a link/URL for NSA.
In regard to pillows, I think finding one that provides the right support for you will help considerably too (but not as much as NSA, CST or ML). I use one that was provided by a chiropractor years ago, after the accident. Unfortunately I don’t know what it is called, but it is very firm, with a depression stitched in the center for the head. It feels like it may be stuffed with cotton batting. The lengthwise sides are each a little bit different in size (each being somewhat like a flattened tube), to allow the person to use the one that fits him/her. I find I need one side when I lay on my right side and the other when I lay on my left side. The key point is for the support under your neck to be firm and of the right size to fit your neck to minimize stress on your neck while sleeping. — It’s very expensive, but if you can afford to go for two weeks to Upledger Clinic in FLA for concentrated CST, they can surely help you.
I am praying that God will provide you with relief.
