Question from nancyk
What do you think of the new SmartSilk pillows, comforters, pads, etc. They are certified by the AAFA, which certifies a lot of things I don’t care for and the owner of Smart Silk agrees with me. I have a friend who got the mattress pad and adores it and it is washable in cold water.
Debra’s Answer
The description looks good to me: 100% silk fill, 100% cotton cover, no chemicals, no flame retardants, machine wash and dry…nothing toxic here and many benefits.
I am interested in silk comforter. My friend has one and said it really feels good in both winter and summer. It seems they use regular cotton for the shell of their comforter. Is that a concern? Thanks!
My understanding has been that cotton fabric, even non-organic, does not have pesticide residues. However, just a couple of weeks ago I posted an article that says otherwise. Check it out and see if you can find out where the cotton is grown.
Debra, at least for the pillows I think it says that the filling is polyester… Would you still recommend it?
Thanks!
COMMENT FROM DEBRA:
I called them about that. There is an inner core of “nontoxic” polyester, wrapped with their silk and a cotton cover. They said it is necessary to use the polyester to get the loft. Personally, I wouldn’t sleep on the pillow, but I am very purist. Their other items are 100% natural and have some good qualities.
