Well, the world is changing.
Pioneering green products company Seventh Generation was just purchased by Unilever for $700 million.
It was actually an emotional shock for me to get this news
I remember when Seventh Generation was started in 1988. It was just before Earth Day 1990 and the book 50 Simple Things You Can Do to Save the Earth, which brought awareness to the mass market that what we do in our homes every day has an effect on the environment—for better or for worse.
Seventh Generation really was the first company to develop products with health and environment being the guiding star. And they did Read more about Seventh Generation…
For Seventh Generation to sell to Unilever…it’s the end of an era. Seventh Generation was an innovator, they were visionaries who changed the marketplace. And now decisions will be made based on mass market values instead of life values.
All I can say is thank goodness for all of the small businesses that are independently producing toxic free products. Please support them.
THE WALL STREET JOURNAL: Unilever Buys ‘Green’ Products Maker Seventh Generation
Many companies have like Ben&Jerry’s, have been bought out now and changed by allowing Chinese foods vitamins and herbs, questionable ingredients from unnamed countries, leading to glyphosate found in their grains, ice cream & cereals, etc.
Horizon dairy, Annie’s, also vitamin&supplements companies like Garden of Life, as well as many natural food stores have new parent companies that are pushing for weaker restrictions on production methods & additives in organics to hike profits for investment companies.
We lived thru granny’s going out of business guess we have to live thru this.
Many years ago in my health-based cleaning service, a customer w/ MCS wanted me to use her Granny’s. But I could not get a complete ingredient list from the co., so we switched to Dr. Bronner’s and Seven Generation, both of which have always listed all ingredients.
My customers count on me to protect their health. Only with ingredient transparency can I hope to do that. Hope Granny’s has arrived since those days!
Maybe this is why their fabric softener gets a D on the Environmental Working Group website?

Ah, maybe 🙂
They are better than some, I guess, but a few years ago I noticed that they started using more conventional chemicals. Quats (quaternary ammonium compounds) and such. I noticed that the founder left a few years ago also, maybe they started going for bigger sales and less carefulness after he was gone?
Has the change already been made, or do you know when…guess I will stock up on what I can…really bummed about this!!
The company has been sold. I don’t know when changes might take place in the product…or if that will happen. I think it’s likely sooner or later.
Wow I use a ton of their stuff. will have to see how long it takes to start changing formulas. When it says new and improved look out.
Very sad, awful news really, to know that going forward we will not be able to trust Seventh Generation. I guess when we start seeing their products on chain supermarket shelves, we know the handwriting is on the wall.
