Question from Miriam
Whew, that was a long title! We need to replace ours, as the part that pulls down has sprung a leak. What ought one look for in this type of purchase? It seems important as it will be in contact with our water.
I’ve found a few on Amazon that look decent – do these seem ok?
Lisa’s Answer
Thanks so much, Lisa! Unfortunately, the one I found was not compatible with our faucet and I’ve been unable to find one that is. I did read about one that was “Environmental and Food Grade Certified PVC inner tube for safe drinking water and family health, ensuring non-toxic and tasteless. ” Have you ever heard of such a thing? Can PVC be safe?
I’m not even sure this would work, but I’m curious about their assertion. Here is the product:

I could not read the documents on Amazon and the brand does not seem to have a website. It’s impossible to say without knowing what they have done to make the PVC safer. PVC has so many potential toxins, including phthalates, lead, cadmium, biocides and possible traces of dioxin from production. In the absence of more information I would avoid this if possible.
