Question from Diane
Is Original Indian Earth makeup non-toxic?
Debra’s Answer
Wow. It’s been a long time since anyone has mentioned this to me.
About thirty years ago this was one of the only natural mineral makeup powders available. I used to use it. Nothing wrong with it that made me stop using it, just more choices became available and I’m always trying new products.
The ingredients are “a naturally occurring mixture of minerals containing iron, silicon, aluminum, calcium, copper, vanadium, molybdenum, nickel and strontium, existing in oxide, silicate and carbonate forms as they occur in nature.”
I used to use Indian Earth years ago as well and loved it. I too, am not sure why I stopped using it other than I like to try new products. Recently I have been looking for a blush not containing titanium dioxide, to no avail. Thats when I remembered the Indian Earth. I have search everywhere I can think of and all over the internet. I have not found it anywhere except online. I would love to simply go see it & buy it right then, but its elusive. I have emailed the company but have not received a reply. I believe they are in Costa Mesa, Calif. I am located in Los Angeles. I hope I wont have to just show up on their doorstep!
Any suggestions where to look?
Thanks
If you find it, please post a source where it can be purchased here.
The Vermont Country Store carries it.
There are so many out there now. I was wondering what is the best to try to use. Anyone have any luck with Bare Essentials?
I’ve been researching natural makeup for 9 years now and began selling natural and organic makeup and body care 5 years ago. Two of my favorite mineral makeup lines are Lauren Brooke Cosmetiques and Earth’s Beauty. Earth’s Beauty has the most minimal ingredients but doesn’t offer much coverage (referring to their mineral foundation powder) whereas the Lauren Brooke Cosmetiques will cover like Bare Minerals but without the Bismuth Oxychloride, a known skin irritant. Both lines are non-nano. One of the things to watch with Bare Minerals is that though their basic powder foundation is fairly good ingredient wise, they use a lot of chemicals and synthetics in their mascara, Prime Time liquid primer, lip liner, lipstick, etc.
I use Aubrey Organics mineral make-up and love it. They have a whole line of great, safe products.
