Question from Star
Hi Debra, Do you know where one can purchase an oral irrigator made of non or low toxic plastic [w/no bpa’s etc.] The one from ‘waterpic’ leaves a bitter taste to the water.
Thanks!
Debra’s Answer
I have a Hydrofloss which is made with ABS plastic. It’s very hard plastic and I have not noticed any outgassing or leaching into the water. It was recommended by my biological dentist and my chiropractor.
Be sure to get extra tips. The tips get clogged after a few months and need to be replaced.
Hi Debra. Do you know of any oral irrigators not at all made of plastic (preferably glass or a similar inert material). The only one I can find is thequickbreeze made of chrome plated brass which has it’s own leaching problems. Also, do you have a link it says what the hydrofloss is made of? I can’t find any info on it. Cheers.
COMMENT FROM DEBRA:
I don’t have a link. I called Hydrofloss customer service and they gave me the information over the phone. As much as I try to eliminate plastics in my life wherever I can, I also consider what is the greatest benefit. Oral irrigation benefits my teeth more than the plastic harms my health. And also the contact time between the water and the plastic is so short (a few minutes) that there is not much time for the plastic to leach into the water. It’s not like water sitting in a plastic bottle for days or weeks or months.
