Question from Jim Ott
Debra, I noticed in the pictures of your bathroom remodel that you installed a glass shower door. What type of caulk did you use to install this door? I have been having a hard time finding a nontoxic waterproof caulk. Thanks, Jim
Debra’s Answer
We used DAP Silicone Caulk, which is easily available at Lowe’s and Home Depot. It’s the least toxic one we’ve found that is sold in general stores. It has some odor, but it dissipates within a day.
If any of you have found less toxic caulks, please post a comment so we can have them here.
I researched this for quite some time. I have a problem with silicone (let’s not get into that discussion). I can’t remember where I first read about Eco-bond Heavy Duty. I finally took a chance and ordered it on Amazon. (It may be carried locally in your area. It isn’t in Hawaii). I ended up having to use it by myself. I had no problem at all. I even got it on my skin that usually reacts quickly to most everything…no reaction! Hoever, always try a sample on your own
AFM Safecoat makes a water-resistant caulk; don’t know if it would be enough to use in a bathroom ?
