This week Professor Anne Steinemann, who has been a champion for the elimination of scented products, has released some new studies that are very interesting
Fragranced baby products (both regular and “green”) – nearly all products emitted chemicals classified as hazardous, with no significant difference between the regular and green products.
Essential oils (both regular and “organic”) – all essential oils emitted chemicals classified as hazardous, with no significant difference between the regular and organic products.
Regulation of fragranced products – no law requires disclosure of all ingredients in a consumer product in Australia, or of any ingredients in a mixture called “fragrance”.
Here’s another paper related to fragrance from a different source. This one is about the need for more ingredient disclosure for fragranced consumer products.
And here’s another from Professor Steinemann on indoor air quality at a university:
Indoor air quality at a University – the green building had some of the highest levels of pollutants
I’ve never really laundered any money but if I was tempted to, I’d try fresh ozone water or use the tube on the machine to capture ozone gas in a plastic bag and “dry clean” it with ozone gas. Ozone in water kills off mold, germs and odors. It is faster and more effective than ozone gas, but some things are not washable. For these I use captured ozone gas. Ozone water machines have gotten a lot cheaper. I run mine on the porch to keep the ozone smell out of the house. It’s also better for the machine to get lots of fresh air. Helps them last longer.
I am not sure if this is the right place to post this comment, but since it is about fragranced products, here goes. I usually use a credit card so I don’t have to deal with cash, but a friend, and rightly so, suggested that I keep a certain amount of cash in my house for emergencies. So I have been cashing some money from the. bank, and oh dear God, the smell of perfume on the money is unrbelieveable!!! I have to hang the money on clips on my balcony to air the money out before I put it in an enveloped and away for when needed. It just shows how perfumed most people are. We have to do something about this!! And I had blood work done at dir. office today and they use , instead of a bandaid, a rubbery material wrapped around your arm after they take the blood. I came home and I smelled the perfume from that and the perfume smell that it left on my arm – had to scrub a lot to get if off of me. I iwill be bringing my own bandaid next time and plan on telling them about the fragrance in their products. Unfortunately this is a fragranced world!!
