I hope you have had a chance to read my new Air Purifier Buying Guide. I received a lot of questions about other air purifiers that were not discussed. The guide is designed so that you can evaluate any air purifier you are considering by comparing the outlined criteria. I did get multiple requests to look specifically at the following brands:
* Air Doctor
* Airpura
* Aireox
* Austin HealthMate Plus Junior
Here is a review of these additional brands. I hope you find it helpful.
I just now got an Air Doctor — West coast wildfire smoke prompted me.
Massive difference with smell between indoors and outdoors! Plus first time in years I woke up in the morning without very itchy skin. Plus the air quality sensor is spot-on. And runs quietly once air is good.
I’ve emailed them about Lisa’s VOC finding. (See Lisa’s Air Doctor Review)
Thanks Lisa for your awesome research and writing!
I also love the Air Doctor. The only problem is that living in a small apartment I usually use an air filter like an end table, putting things on it, but you can’t put things on the Air Doctor.
I’ve had the Austin Healthmate Jr for years. I can’t tolerate many permanganate mixtures, but you don’t have it with one. In my bedroom it is too noisy and windy, so I never used it. I was told by a hygienist to get a bigger one because then it would not have to have the fan as high. However I have lots of trouble in my living and dining room with musty, moldy smells, after reupholstering, I ran the Jr. For almost a year in the living room and dining room and it helped the smell except in the pillows, on the sofa. They didn’t wash the material, because they found whatever they wanted to use would make the color run, so they did hydroxylization, which was useless., even with new insides.
The inside is easy to change and lasts a long time.,however I am going to try the Vornado convection, no filters and see if it helps morning congestion.
Vornado is not designed to remove chemicals and gases. Their most expensive model has a pre-filter to capture odors but it will not remove VOCs or other harmful gases.
We thought we were remodeling our home but it turned out to be a rebuild due to much damage we did not know about. Although we did most everything as non-toxic as we could, someone made a mistake and used a very toxic product that prevented us from moving back into our home for an extra 1/2 year. The odor and toxic reaction was huge. One of the remedies we did was to purchase three Air Doctor air purifiers and put them in different areas of our home to help treat the off-gassing. We have had other machines but found Air Doctor to be wonderful. Totally recommend this machine and the plus is that they often sell for half price seen on physicians online sights as well as posted on face book from time to time. We have been living back in our home now for a year and continue to use our machines to clean the air for attention to allergies, asthma, viruses, bacteria, dust, pollen, and more. Hope this helps.
Hi Jeri, can you advise on the product that was used in your home that was toxic. It may help others avoid unnecessary exposures and potential illness. Thank you!
