Question from Anne
Hi Debra,
Sensodyne Original is being discontinued. I need a NON-MINT flavored toothpaste with the 5% potassium nitrate for sensitive teeth or another de-sensitizer that is just as effective. I live in constant sinus headaches and my teeth are super sensitive. Any specific help would be greatly appreciated!!!
Debra’s Answer
I don’t know of a toothpaste off-hand that meets these qualifications.
Readers, any suggestions?
I don’t know why Sensodyne original is no longer avaikabke. I have used it since the 70’s.
I did write to the comany and they sent back ridiculous comments- i had mentioned that their “rapid relief with several kinds of fluoride was ineffective. The label stated it will taje at least 3 days to be effective. Rmwhen I write to them that three days was a long time to have a sore tooth when the previous formula was nearly instant, i got a lot of gobbledygook
In their response asking about going to the dentist . It wasn’t the dentist I needed, I needed the first formula toothpaste. The answer they sent was rather mocking. I was so annoyed I didn’t bother to write back to them.
I am taking meds for cancer that gives my mouth painful ulcerations. All the mint toothpaste flavours burn my mouth so badly it brings tears to my eyes. I have resorted to using a liquid Oragel to numb my mouth before I brush my teeth.
I really appreciate the suggestions offered for toothpastes without mint.
Maybe people could write letters en masse to demand they resume production of the original formula.
I have seen good results for other products from such an activity. Peanut butter and Amosan mouthwash for instance.
Good luck to everyone trying to sooth their tooth pain.
It is still possible to buy it in Brazil. If you know someone that is going there. Good luck in your research and treatment.
I HAVE HAD 8 SINUS SURGERIES WITH ONE THEY REMOVED A LOT OF BONE. ALL MY TEETH FELT LIKE THE NERVES WERE DYING. IT WAS EXTREMELY PAINFUL AND SENSODYNE ORIGINAL WAS THE ONLY THING THAT STOPPED THE PAIN
I need sensodyne original urgently .why in the world discontinue it .please help .
What is replacing sensodyn original?
Why is the orginal being discontinued???
This is the only toothpaste that my brother can use. What other toothpaste can you recommend?
Why is Sensodyne original being discontinued?
The original sensodyne was the best because it contains no toxic Fluoride! Instead it had strontium which works wonders. But Fluoride is so abundant they dont know where else to use it.
I support Anne’s comments, I have used Sensodyne Original since my dentist recommended it in the 1970’s for sinus and tooth sensitivity. I now have dentures and supplement my cleaning regime with Sensodyne especially when I am having sinus issues. I agree with Kendra Jason makes a good substitue but it is not readily stocked by stores in my area and shipping makes it very expensive.
We use eco-dent. It remineralizes enamel. It comes in several non-mint flavors.
It is a tooth ppowder.
Why is the orginal being discontinued???? I hate mint flavor what is the issue
Have you tried the coconut-chamomile fluoride free toothpaste by Jason, Simply Coconut. It’s very soothing to my sensitive teeth and gums. Found at Natural Grocers about 4.75.
iHerb has several sensitive toothpastes. I used Jason Natural, Oral Comfort, Antiplaque & Soothing Tooth Gel, Very Berry Mint with good effect, and it had no noticeable mint taste. https://www.iherb.com/search?sug=sensitive%20toothpaste&kw=sensitive%20tooth&rank=01
I also made my own tooth powders with clove powder. Clove essential oil diluted in carrier vegetable oil or glyserin is excellent for numbing teeth, same as what dentists use.
Try Zion Health ClayBrite Sensitive Natural toothpaste flavor free.
It’s @ Vitacost for 5.37. Retails 7.49 elsewhere. Hope this helps.
Best regards,
John
