Question from Ellen
Hi Debra,
Can anyone recommend an good non-toxic exterior paint that is hopefully also durable? I’ve been putting off various painting jobs for fear of exposure to fumes. I’d be especially interested in hearing any experiences.
Thanks!

I was dreading the much needed exterior painting of our house, but it had to be done. The painter actually used Sherwin Williams’ exterior low-VOC paint, and I never detected any odor inside the house, and my husband says I have a super nose!
Hello Ellen,
I had the same question a few months ago and spent endless hours researching paints…I have zero tolerance for toxins, fumes, etc. I chose a product called Mythic Prime, which is a non-toxic interior/exterior all purpose white primer. You can find it at http://www.mythicpaint.com. I originally needed an exterior paint that would adhere to metal for the purpose of painting steel doors and window frames for a Quonset Hut style barn. The “Prime” was a relatively new product in the Mythic line at the time that I purchased. I am so pleased with the “non-toxic” character of this paint as well as its performance that I have since used it to paint old furniture and farm fence gates. It is extremely versatile, applies easily, and cleans up quite well….best of all, does not make me sick!
I have used Mythic paint in two homes now and found it to be odor-free and very durable and nice-looking both times. I was very pleased.
Mythic is Toxic.! I had to remove the drywall in my closet to get rid of it. I put AFM Safecoat paint with Evonjc colorant and all their building products in my remodeled home and no problems. I have MCS. Use Aireox air filtration machines #thebest

I haven’t tried it, but I’m intending to purchase some of their interior products (clear coat, primarily), after reading about it here on Debra’s site. I just glanced quickly at their exterior products, and I’m not sure if they are what you looking for. They might not be for all exterior surfaces, but I’m not sure. But perhaps it will give you a starting point.
