Question from HEG
I have been using a cuisinart blender to cook my daughter’s food, most of which is hot when blended. I was under the impression that it was safe to use because of its glass jar. But it just occurred to me that there are many components that are plastic – the rubbery plastic part of the lid, the clear plastic part of the lid, the blade accessories and base. I am concerened that these parts may include BPA and PVC in particular. Do you or any of your readers know whether this may be a concern? Thank you.
Debra’s Answer
I’m not concerned. When I use a blender, I don’t blend the food for more than a minute, if that, and leaching needs contact time.
If your food is coming in contact with the plastic lid, you’re probably filling it too full.
I have a Cuisinart blender as well, and the plastic lid has an awful odor that reminds me of BO (body odor). I have soaked it in hot water that had a bleach and water solution, but it did not remove the odor. I tried lemon juice baking soda paste, but did nothing. Did anyone else have this problem and have success removing any odors? If so, it would be great if you could help me remove the odor from mine. Thanks so much!
Sorry I realize this is an old post. But I also just started using the Cusinart glass jar blender to puree my baby’s food. I noticed a very strong plastic smell in the food, but thought it was the apple puree. Now I thought of it, it must be the plastic from the blender because it still smells like that now after I cleaned it and there is no more puree in the jar. Will it harm my baby? Shall I throw the blender away? It still smells like burnt plastic. Thank you
I wouldn’t use a blender that smells like burnt plastic. I would contact Cuisinart and tell them the problem. They should give you a replacement blender that does not have this smell or refund your money.
