Question from Kris
I need a chair where I put my legs up above my heart. I went through the furniture you have listed but unable to find any.
Lisa’s Answer
I am not aware of any lazyboy-type chair that is non-toxic. This type of chair is typically filled with polyurethane foam, which I do not recommend. You could look into having one custom made, but it would be quite expensive. Have you considered getting a solid wood footstool and using cushions to prop up your feet? You could use cushions filled with natural fill such as kapok, wool or cotton.
How about a Lafuma style zero gravity chair? You might be able to fabricate your own cover over the mesh fabric.
The Lafuma chair is made with a steel frame and Batyline mesh fabric. Batyline is a polyester fiber covered by a coating of PVC. PVC is considered by some experts to be the most toxic form of plastic. PVC may contain phthalates and BPA. The manufacturer claims that it is Oeko-Tex certified, but that only means that it does not contain a specified list of certain chemicals.
I would not recommend this chair, particularly for indoor use. Covering it with a fabric will not keep it from off-gassing.
