Question from mskleimo
Do you have any sources for non-toxic hair dyes or highlighters especially ones that can be used in foils which keeps it out of direct contact with my scalp? I have become sensitive to the ones I have used for years. I have tried Palette by Nature but it cant be used in foils. I just tried Naturtint but it still has peroxide and PPD which I would like to avoid. The Palette by Nature says its free of those 2 but is too runny to use in a foil. thanks!

First, the least toxic hair dye is henna. It comes in many colors now. But I don’t think it can be used with foils.
Maybe it’s time to consider not using foils. Maybe try henna, or no hair dye at all.
Readers, any suggestions?
After lots of research I began using Light Mountain Cover the Gray. I have severe MCS and was about to give up when I found it. It’s been a godsend! It contains only organic henna and organic indigo. This is a two-step process and I get it done at a salon (I just bring the box). Because I’m 50% gray, the effect looks very highlighted! I use light brown and my hair comes out kind of two-toned–some is darker and some is lighter brown. I’ve read that you can add tea or lemon juice to plain henna for color. Make sure that you use organic henna, as some other brands that say they’re “henna”put in toxic additives. I’ve been using this over two years with no problems. It looks nice and even other stylists are suprised that the color is henna. Light Mountain also makes several regular colors for those who aren’t so gray ๐
Henna can be mixed on the thick side, so that it isn’t runny. I don’t know anything about foils, though.
