Question from Shirley
I read the comments from people hoping to find unscented or garbage bags without fragrance. Why did the makers of household products and trash bags start adding fragrance anyway? In most places a garbage can is provided or used for trash disposal. Where I live, we put our trash to the curb in bags, Paper is not an option due to our wet climate. I sympathize with the people who are sensitive to fragrances. I call the laundry aisle the “Aisle of Death”. How do those sensitive to the overly fragranced world we live in survive? Where can we find truly unscented Garbage Bags? Costco is not an option anymore. Neither is Walmart. I suggest calling Hefty & complaining. Thanks for listening

I shop BJ’s and buy their brand the cheap white ones. No smell. But of cause that could have changed as I bought them month ago. Good Luck.
Trash bags are one of my worst exposures. And it’s not just the perfumes, it’s also the plastics smell. I separate my rubbish into dry and wet.
I get by using paper bags for trash and putting garbage or anything wet into the small produce bags used at supermarkets- they don’t have a strong smell. Nevertheless, I remove the filled produce bags daily. When the paper bags are full, I put them in a generic plastic trash bag and immediately remove it from my home. I keep the trash bags in a front closet wrapped in aluminum foil. When I’m very sensitive, I keep the trash bags in a separate storage room located in my apartment complex.
We buy the heavy duty black ones from Costco. They don’t smell, but their white kitchen ones do! We need to write them and complain!
And our white ones that go in our kitchen come from Whole Foods. 365 Brand. Staples also had toxic ones. We were desperate and thank God finally found these (2) options. Sad world we live in where literally everything is contaminated with this ubiquitous fabric softener/dryer sheets poison. Truly, this has to stop!
Look for no name, or store name products in order to avoid the added fragrances and deodorizers.
For example, here in B.C. Home Hardware has “Home Handy Tie” kitchen bags. They also have outdoor bags by “Home”, “Professional” and “Eco11”.
Save On Foods has “Western Family” brand bags that are safe as well. There are options out there, although not always easy to find as each store has the option of whether to carry the product or not.
Hi Shirley, Lisa, and everyone. Fragrance is such a pain! I’ve had success with Whole Foods’ 365 white kitchen garbage bags. And, Simple Human’s trash can liners. Also, various sizes of garbage bags at Home Depot and Smart & Final are not scented either.
Totally ruined two days of work. I go to the hardware store.
