Question from Bri
Hi Debra,
Hi – do you know of any safe, non-toxic eye drops or eyelid cleansers? According to Good Guide the name brands contain ‘banned’ ingredients! Is there a safe way to clean eyelids and eyelashes (even baby shampoo was found to have formaldehyde years ago!)? Thanks very much, Debra – don’t know how these products can claim to give you healthy eyelids, etc. using toxic ingredients; sigh. Thanks for all you do.
Debra’s Answer
I’ve never researched a safe alternative to those products because I don’t use them at all.
I don’t think you need to use a cleanser for eyelashes or eyelids. Just plain water is fine for me.
Readers, any suggestions?
A compounding pharmacy can make Vit A ointment, and a plant cellulose with a little Castor oil for lubricating. Leiters in CA can ship all over the U.S.
Bri — Are you looking for something to remove eye makeup? I use Waxelene, made with organic soy oil, beeswax, natural vitamin e oil and organic rose, ary oil. Another product is Un-Petroleum, but I don’t know the ingredients.
I use coconut oil, organic coconut oil. Either liquid form or solid that has been liquified in my fingers. Rarely do I wear makeup these days, but years ago started using it for that purpose. I stopped wearing makeup and developed dry eyes, the prescribed drops were nightmares. The natural treatment suggested was Good old fashioned warm water, then I use a damp cloth to cleanse my entire face with coconut oil. I do the eyes last to avoide contamination use fresh bit of oil for the eyes. Gently rinse with warm cloth. My skin has never looked better and the dry eyes have been made to feel much better.
Hi all, people with eye issues (like blepharitis, dry eye, etc) are usually told to use eye drops and/or eyelid and eyelash cleansers (like Sterilid, OcuSoft) – but they all do contain banned or controversial ingredients; some have known cancer-causing ingredients. A soft washcloth rubbed gently across a closed eyelid, at base of lashes might help (very warm water), or per Mayo Clinic website, any mild cleanser (without soap). I use Vanicream facial cleanser. Would love to see more comments.
