Question from Sarjan Banks
Hi, I have fairly severe MCS and am looking for a drywall alternative (given all the recent problems I have heard about drywall). Does anyone know about dragonboard? I can’t quite figure out what it is made of? Has anyone used it?
Debra’s Answer
Interesting material. It has a lot of benefits without toxic ingredients. I haven’t used it, but it looks good on paper: www.dragonboard.com/aboutus.php
Ten years ago I got a sample of Dragonboard. The odor still bothers me.
Has anyone used dragonboard or the other magnesium oxide (MgO) boards for interior sheathing? This post was from 2011…
These MgO products are popular in Asia and apparently now in hurricane zones like Florida. I heard of it first through a naturopath. MgO boards are apparently chemical free and mold resistant along with other properties like resistance in hurricanes, fires etc.?? I don’t know if it must be painted or not? Seems so…
I need to redo my livingroom walls and ceilings due to moisture/mold from leaky fireplace flashing and disintegrating old asphalt-impregnanted insulation (called Kimsul, made in 30-40’s) that is escaping from behind cedar paneling. I assumed I’d use drywall (checking for additive free brands) but it’s been fairly toxic to me until painted, even in small refinishing jobs.
Also, I may need to tear out all my ceiling and wall drywall from my big master bedroom since it’s been unusable since 2009 when painted with Mystic paint… it still smells of paint fumes. I posted that on Debra’s list. I know many people love Mystic but it may have been a bad batch. Another person in S.F. had the same problem.
THANKS!
Sue
