Just FYI the zirconium implants are radioactive. I know hard to believe but they are. They also contain yttrium which is associated with lung cancer. So that is what the dental world is offering those of us not wanting metal in our mouths!
i have many many fillings and now need vaneers and they use and are using diamondbond and diamondflow- its the bets for people who are sensitive- i might have to get implants to and will test whatever they use. Also stop with the fear people with the whole point of no return talk- as for people who have no fillings- thats not a choice- some of us get fillings and some people dont but if you need fillings done then diamondbond is the best
I am the one who originally asked this question. Haven’t had to do anything yet, but when the time comes ( and it is getting closer) I will probably opt for a bridge. I have always taken such good care of my teeth, even the dentists/periodontists have said so, but things are happening anyway. I just wanted to comment that about a year ago I read that the actor Dick Van Dyke was getting severe headaches and I believe other symptoms and they could not find out what was wrong and finally after suffering for many months it turns out it was his dental implants making him sick – and as far as I know – he is not chemically sensitive like a lot of us who read this website. I never heard anything after that about him – if he removed them or what he did/did not do.
You can get a Clifford Test a blood test to see what dental devices that you might be allergic to. I’d call them and ask if they test for dental implants first. Phone 719-550-0008. You’ll also need to find a mercury free, holistic dentist that handles allergy sensitivity and that knows how to read the Clifford test. To find a dentist go to dams.com or google mercury free dentist. I’ve never reacted to any of the dental glues, crown, fillings, damns, etc or to the mercury removal. I had 1/4 of my mouths mercury removed at a time every 6 months. She used a special machine that kind of vacuumed up the mercury fumes away from my face. Hope this helps!
Contact the dentist and ask of they know how to read a Clifford Test and let them know your concerns. You can also get a Clifford Test for body implants and medical supplies used for surgeries too.

Weston A. Price Foundation.org Winter Journal 2011 Has a wonderful article on ” New Dental Materials “. I would encourage you to go to their website and read it. It is VERY imformative :).
The dams website for biological, holistic dentists at dams.com is incorrect. The dental office gave me the incorrect web address. Sorry. I got on the website after I posted it and found that it was incorrect.
Here is the correct web address info to begin your search for a holistic dentist and to receive other information. http://www.amalgam.org/ or call 651-644-4572 maintains a list of holistic (also called “biological”) dentists in every state and province who are trained and equipped to replace amalgams safely. Hopefully they will also use better choices of replacement materials, and use natural, less toxic approaches to gum health and decay prevention (no fluoride) and be aware of the hazards of root canal treatments. To request a list of knowledgeable practitioners in your state of province, please call DAMS at 651-644-4572, or e-mail us at DAMS@usfamily.net. Please leave your name and full address (snail mail address, not just e-mail address) on the DAMS phone line. We will then mail (snail mail) out the practitioner list with our information guide. It has a wealth of information and can empower you to be a more informed dental patient. It discusses in detail the dental amalgam mercury issue and other ways that dentistry may affect health. To talk with a DAMS staff person call 651-644-4572.
After speaking with a staff person they didn’t recommend the Clifford Test for people with MCS (although I’ve not had any reaction to the dental items that were deemed safe for me on the Clifford Test) and have other additional information to send out concerning biocompatability of patients with dental supplies and devices.
On the topic of dental health…about a year and a half ago we discovered the work of dentist Dr. Weston A. Price, he did some fascinating research in the 1930’s regarding diet and oral health. He traveled the world studying the diets of “traditional” peoples, aka indigenous peoples. Namely, these people ate from the land and were in touch with the land and specifically, unfermented grains, white flour and white sugar where not part of their diets.
http://www.westonaprice.org/
He advocated a of these sorts:
There is a book out there by Rami Nagel, called “Cure Your Teeth” which is based largely upon the work of Weston Price. He claims you can remineralize your teeth (cure a cavity w/o needing a filling) if you follow his protocol. I don’t have experience to validate that theory, but it does make sense to me, especially from the point of the bone broths. There are anecdotal stories out there where people claim having success with the Weston Price method for curing cavities. When we make the broths, after 24-48 hours (24 for small bones like chicken and longer for large bones like beef), the bones get very soft and mushy, this is because the minerals are being leached out of the bones. White sugar, white flour and many grains left unfermented (soaking is the beginning stages of fermentation) can literally leach minerals from your body, including your teeth.
What I have noticed, is boy oh boy, do I feel better eating so many more fermented foods as well as drinking the bone broths. Mainly I drink the broths, but I sometimes do use it to make “dirty rice” or as a soup base. My digestion feels better and my brain feels clearer. Even though I’ve eaten a relatively healthy diet for years, I suspect that my body has not been getting all the minerals it deserves, especially considering all the white sugar and flour I ate in my youth.
NEVER get “silver” fillings as they contain high amounts of mercury which seeps into the bloodstream and releases clouds of mercury when distrubed, e.g. chewing, grinding.
Composite fillings are better but it is still plastic in your mouth.
Gold fillings are even better but it is still a heavy metal. Looks cool though.
Porcelain fillings are the best, the only concern would be the glue needed to hold them in place.
Price inclines with quality.
Prevention is better than cure, so eat lots of fruit and vegetables, reduce or remove the dairy and meat from your diet as they cause the blood to become acidic, the body must then regulate the blood’s pH by extracting calcium from bones and teeth. Calcium in dairy is useless to humans, great for cows though!
I do not have any fillings.
COMMENT FROM DEBRA:
Good for you! I also do not have any fillings!
My husband has had one for quite a few years and gas had ni problems. He forgets it is even there.
I’d like to warn against putting any metal in your mouth in this time where wireless devices are becoming the norm. Metal acts like an antenna and concentrates the EMFs from wireless in your mouth.
I have a healthy friend who knew this too well as she has listened to my every moment of descent into hell since Smart Meters were put in my area. But she thought it could never happen to her. She was perfectly fine until dental implants. Shortly after she started to get ill and has grown steadily worse. Thousands of dollars of medical tests later–nothing was found to be wrong with her. A few weeks ago she suddenly realized her symptoms were similar to mine and that she has become severely electro-hypersensitive. I don’t even know if she can have the implants removed, but I do know that she has crossed a line of no return. Removing the implants will help, but I expect she will continue to be very ill.
So please no metal in your mouth, do NOT wear mental underwire bras, and get rid of all wireless devices possible! Opt-out of Smart Meters, toss cordless phones, and try to use only landline phones. If you must have a cell phone keep it turned off as much as possible and forward it to your landline phone when at home.
I’d like to ask about people’s experiences with Zirconium ceramic (metal-free) dental implants, as opposed to Titanium (or Titanium alloys). Zirconium implants were approved for use in USA a couple years ago, and I found 2 local dentists who are trained to use them, but I’ve also been warned about them since they’re not as widely used or proven as Titanium (at least not in the USA). My understanding is that Zirconium implants may be the only implant solution for people with metal allergies or other immune system issues (like MCS, CFS, FM).
The MELISA test is a blood test that I’m doing instead of the Clifford test to check for metal allergies. The website is http://www.melisa.org if you want more info. So far it seems the MELISA test has compelling clinical backing and studies supporting its validity, and I feel more comfortable with the info I found on MELISA compared to Clifford, so I’m going to do it and see what happens. I have some type of metal allergy as evidenced by bad reactions to various metals in jewellery, both nickel-containing metal and metal that’s supposedly nickel-free, so I’d like to see if the MELISA can narrow it down for me- I want to know for general health reasons but also will be helpful in narrowing down options before getting more metal permanently stuck in my mouth.
On the other hand, if you know you’re allergic to nickel or another specific metal, testing might not even be needed because you can assume it’s best to avoid all dental metals completely. I’ve been advised that anyone with nickel allergy should avoid even hypallergenic metal implants such as “pure Titanium”- because trace amounts of nickel can still be present in the Titanium and if allergic you could react badly once it’s lodged into your bone. Another problem I’ve been warned of is galvanic metal reactions, where mixing certain metals in your dental work can create serious problems, so I’m looking into that as well. Trying to remain open to the possibilities while also cautious in this huge money-making dental/health industry (whether mainstream or whole body approach).
I’ve done lots of research on the topic of dental implants since I’m faced with either several implants or partial dentures. I have CFS/MCS so I don’t want to compromise my immune system further- I don’t want to end up like many of the unfortunate cases I’ve read about (people whose health deteriorates after metal implants.. maybe Zirconium has a brighter outlook?). And it would be nice to avoid tossing thousands of dollars out the window, too! I hope there are people reading this website with Zirconium implant experience to share! Thanks
Does anyone on here have experience with Zirconia implants? I am considering getting a zirconia tooth implant and am interested in hearing other folks experiences with them. I would like to know what brand you used, how long you have had them in and what dentist placed your implant for you…Have you had any problems with them. Any information you are willing to share is greatly appreciated. Considering getting a zirconia implant but would like to hear others’ experiences. Thank you!
I do not have implants but I have a biological dentist who ran a test on me to check what dental materials I am allergic to. I believe its called the Clifford Test. This web site will help you find a biological (aka mercury-free dentist) dentist close to you.http://www.dentalwellness4u.com/freeservices/find_dentists.html
The dentist then will only use those materials you are not allergic to, this should also apply to the materials used for implants, but the biological dentist could advise the patient about this.
I am also interested in hearing people’s experience with implants. I have to decide whether to get a bridge (lower molar area) or an implant and reading lots of conflicting information. I think they are probably safe BUT on rare occasion not which is what I am concerned about. I do have mitral valve prolapse but apparently cardiologist thinks they are safe but am wondering how much more invasive work/xrays etc implants will require in my mouth vs bridge? anneh
Correction the article I cited in my earlier post is called ” New Choices In Dental Implants ” . WestonAPrice.org Winter Journal 2011. You will find the info when you click on Journals on the front page. The article talks about a new product called Ceraroot.com. It is a completely new metal free implant.
almost everyone who I know that had dental implants then had medical issues from what I see as a challenge to their immune system. Dentists and other medical doctors do not say this and now biological dentist are even offering implants and approving of them, because they make a lot of money and it’s the new way to build a mouth. Implanting a foreign body into bone challenges our health.See if you find people who had implants and then did not come up with health issues following that.
