Question from Patricia
We live in a 600 square foot condo in a cool, very damp and humid climate on the northern oregon coast. I am researching ways to decrease indoor humidity to decrease mold etc. as our humidity can be well over 50%. We do not have central air/AC (we have electric baseboard heaters) so I am thinking about portable dehumidifiers.
Are there any trusted brands you can recommend?
Anything I should avoid?
Any help is greatly appreciated!

I have not investigated dehumidifiers. Readers, any suggestions?
I bought a new dehumidifier and it had a terrible plastic smell when I plugged it in. I washed it and then let it run several days outside to off gas until the smell was gone. Hope this idea helps.
We purchased a Pure and Dry from Allergy Buyers Club. It has to be emptied every day unless it’s hooked up to a drainage source. We bought the 70 pint size. We are surprised there’s that much moisture in our basement but glad we can dehumidify it. Nothing to compare it to, though.
I bought a Toshiba dehumidifier last January. I am moderate MCS and I haven’t had any issues with it. I left it in a second bedroom for about 3 weeks before using.
