Question from Joshua
My brother has a project where he simply wants to paint the concrete floor in his bedroom with white/off-white, then color, then a seal/finish. Can you recommend a paint that can be used on concrete?
Debra’s Answer
Here’s a link where you can find nontoxic paint and sealer for concrete: Green Building Supply: Concrete & Masonry Sealers.
I love painted concrete floors. I think it can be a beautiful and creative solution.
We are planning to do a similar project and have decided to use Sherwin William’s Porch & Floor Enamel, as it’s readily available locally. It seems to be water-based and is supposed to be low odor. Here is the URL: http://www.sherwin-williams.com/painting-contractors/products/catalog/porch-floor-enamel/. Also, it should make the floor very easy to clean, which was important to us with pets. Debra, how does that product look to you?
COMMENT FROM DEBRA:
It’s low-VOC and the MSDS says it has a health rating of “1” which is the lowest toxicity. So I would say it’s pretty good for this type of product. Open the windows when you use it anyway.
