Question from Kelly
I love using my breadmaker. However, the loaf pan has a non-stick surface. Are there any breadmakers that do not have a non-stick loaf pan?
Debra’s Answer
Not that I know of, but I don’t particularly keep up with all the breadmakers, as eat gluten-free.
Readers? Any suggestions?
Beem is a German-based company that makes a breadmaker with a ceramic based pan. I’ve had mine for a couple of years and it works as good as Teflon.
“Ceramic-based” nonstick finishes are not certamic, they are plastic. Not Teflon, but still plastic.
What do you mean they are not ceramic but plastic? The beem is not coated with ceramic?
No. “Ceramic” finishes on pots and pans are not typical ceramic made of clay. It’s a plastic finish.
i found this product – i think the company (sana products) is based in the czech republic. they have a stainless steel paddle/pan model (or option on base model). in either case it’s on the pricey side $300+

But it there someone that sells this in the US?

Zojirushi BB-CEC20 Bread Machine – one puchaser said they were not teflon – I have e-mailed the company to ask for details. Tons of good reviews on amazon
Zojirushi bread pans are made with a generic Teflon coating.
Thanks for the suggestions.
Here’s one answer I found…
Nope, the government is mandating the use of teflon in every cooking item. It is now up for review and could become law. If a company makes an item without teflon or you cook without teflon you could face criminal charges. I guess that’s why there aren’t any companies making bread machines without it. Since there are countless people including myself that want to buy a bread machine without the toxic teflon crap, this is the only reason I can come up with. I think it’s part of the strategy to help keep the world’s population lower. Teflon will cause cancer and a host of other dangerous health problems….. why not incorporate it into everything?
7/18/2011: The Bready Bread Machine comes with a ceramic, non-stick, PTFE and PFOE pan. I don’t own one but it looks to get around the teflon issue because it was engineered in Sweden. It’s in the mid-$300 range and it looks like you have to buy bread mix bags (~$7/each) to actually use the machine. Here’s the link: http://www.mybready.com/bready_faq.html
[it appears to be a bread machine that makes only gluten-free bread from their own mixes – Debra]
This is just the opposite of the truth. Teflon is being banned.
That’s correct. Teflon has been proven to emit toxins when it overheats ti underv309 F. This is a fact. I’ve sll the research on my desktop but have flu and am not going searching in my office now. I’m a health educator with xm captive birds. You can take my word for it as I’ve been researching this topic for decades.
Teflon when heat3d to what is less than previously thought tOS is highly toxic to birds. One of the 1st rules of safety in bird ownership is to ban all Teflon from our homes.
I’ve untreatable asthma and choose ceramic products that are not coated with potentially toxic emitting substances eg zInc. etc. You must get a MSDS aka material saferry data sheet from the manufacturer of sny product you consider purchasing. There is a Web site devoted to obtaining ingredirnts of products because it’s unlawful for a company to refuse to issue you one. Forms c as n be found on the Web site.
Years ago it was thought Teflon coated products were not potentially danger pus unless heated to temps if appx 500 F. This has been widely disproven via bona fide research. Check government and or safety research wbesides or documentation from your library.
Ceramic is safe if pure but not if coated with certain metals etc. Just do your research thoroughly before purchasing.
Good luck
PS im.in the market for non Teflon. Non toxic bread machine also.
