Question from Debbie
I love your website and have turned to it often to help me survive this MCS.
I am having a new shower installed with polished chrome trim (where the water turns on and off), shower doors, and tile. I was told that if I put car wax on the polished chrome and the shower doors that it will not turn spotty with our hard water and will be easy to clean. Do you know of any kind of wax or something else that I could use for this application?
Thank you very much,
Debbie

I don’t know of anything. Sounds like you are aware to not use the car wax. Readers, any suggestions?
I discovered simple rubbing alcohol shines up my bathroom fixtures incredibly well.
Except that rubbing alcohol is made from petroleum and is slightly toxic. Less toxic and equally effective would be vodka, which is the same alcohol, but made from plants.
I use hydrogen peroxide on my bathroom shower and fixtures. 3% in the spray bottle. Sprinke with baking soda scrub then rinse then hydrogen peroxide.
I agree with Liz. I just dry the water off the chrome tub spout with a rag. I’ve been here 22 years and it looks pretty good. I also go over the tile with a squeegee and then a rag so that it will try faster and hopefully mildew won’t grow. And thankfully I have a bathroom window which helps the airing out process.
Hi,
I saw an ad for ecover having “green” car wash products. But, I think if you wipe the chrome with a rag/washcloth after showering it will be enough to keep the water spots off.
Check out this article: http://lifehacker.com/5905973/remove-hard-water-stains-with-lemons Looks like you can use a lemon to remove these spots!
Anonymous has it down! I too squeegee my shower down, then towel-dry the remaining moisture (including the fixtures). Things stay clean and shiny. and scrubbing is rarely needed. And, to me, an uncoated fixture is a cleaner fixture.
I”ve run a green cleaning business for years. And at my suggestion, most of my customers do the same in their own bathrooms. Why pay for your scrubbing, if you can prevent the need for it?
