Home test kit for lead. These swabs are simple to use. Just rub the end of the swab against the item you are testing for thirty seconds. If there is lead the swab will show red. If no lead, the swab will remain white. They come in packs of 2 for about $10. You should be able to find them at your local Home Depot store.
Hi Debra a few months ago I bought some white glass dishes from Ikea. I thought they were white glass, but later noticed on the back of one dish a “drip mark” of white coating that was covering the glass. The dishes were made in France. Don’t know the manufacturer. What are the chances that the coating contains lead? They ‘re cheap dishes, but so pretty and the ones I’ve used have never accumulated scratches the way plain glass dishes seem to after continued use. I plan to get a lead testing kit, but curious if you or any of your readers know about these dishes and what the coating is. thanks!
The only way to know is to test. IKEA has some great products that are very nontoxic, but you have to pick and choose because not all of them are made from nontoxic materials.
Also IKEA is exceptionally good about disclosing their materials. So start by asking THEM or look up the product on their website and the information should be there.
I would like a home test kit for lead. How do I get one? Thanks so much!
Chrisy
You can get them online or buy one in the paint department at Home Depot.
