Kelocabay

Organic cotton bags of all sizes and natural fiber scarves “hand dyed naturally…We use plants, not pollutants, to create color for our accessories collection. The beauty of aligning our design, development and production with the East Coast seasons truly defines how guided we are by nature. Each season nature brings us many gifts, including the colors we create. We expand on and discover more colors from season to season through growing dye plants and natural dyeing our textiles in house. Our dye stuffs are mostly home grown, locally foraged or food scraps. At times we also use minerals and dye stuffs that we source from trusted suppliers.”

INFUSION-FIBERS.jpg

Infusion

Beautifully simple natural fiber handmade bags, using organic cotton, vegetable tanned leather, and other natural materials of similar quality. “Infusion represents a collection of hand designed, hand sewn, high quality, natural fiber textile and leather work.,Every item is thoughtfully constructed, from start to finish, by Abby Meadow, in her home loft studio on the Oregon coast… In my work, I strive to create durable and long lasting items that are both functional and beautiful. I am drawn to natural fibers, with an emphasis on organic cotton canvas, waxed cotton canvas, hemp, and vegetable tanned leather. In my own life, I make every effort to be kind and gentle to the earth and to the life forms that live here. My work is a natural, creative extension of the things I value, and the care in which I approach life and those around me.” Wallets, backpacks, purses, satchels, and more.

Aplat

A “culinary tote collection” of bags and wraps designed simply and specifically for carrying food. I love their Grand Tote, which is wide enough to carry a variety of vegetables from the farmer’s market or garden, without piling them on top of each other. “Sewn by women in San Francisco, the Aplat collection of washable, reusable culinary totes is manufactured with empathy, applying a zero-waste origami design using 100% organic cotton.”

RED-CLOUDS-COLLECTIVE.jpg

Red Cloud Collective

These bags do not use organic fabric or low impact dyes but I consider them better than more toxic alternatives because they use waxed canvas instead of PFAS chemicals for waterproofing and vegetable tanned leather which is safer than regular leather.

“Our products are born from necessity. Each one is thoughtfully designed to make life a little easier, and they’re all built to last a lifetime.”MATERIALS: Vegetable Tanned Leather from Hermann Oak—a St. Louis, Missouri-based tannery that has been tanning leather using extracts of tree bark in the traditional method since 1881. Waxed Canvas from Fairfield Textile, a specialized American manufacturer based in Bridgeton, New Jersey that has been crafting fabric since 1838. Selvage Denim from Cone Mills’ White Oak Plant in North Carolina, woven on vintage 1940s fly-shuttle looms that give each piece of fabric a unique depth and dimension.”
